Officials close out large Ebola-like outbreak in Cambodia, swine flu spreads

(FoxNews.com) — Health authorities in Cambodia have closed down the small test group of people who were vaccinated against swine flu following two new cases of the disease, including one fatality.

Officials say that the area where the outbreak occurred was reduced to “normal” conditions following vaccinations given on Friday. The quarantined individuals will begin to be allowed to leave the region once the test vaccine has been transferred to a second trial area, health officials said.

The World Health Organization recommended that Cambodian officials vaccinate all those entering the country. WHO said the country needed to put in place quarantine, disinfection and tracing measures as a precaution.

Cambodia introduced the flu vaccine as part of a wider national health project. Vaccination for the flu is not recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A confirmed case of swine flu was recorded in a 20-year-old man on June 6 and a second case on June 10, officials said. The patient who died was already under treatment.
