Let's dance: 10 things you didn't know about Andrew Watt

| People Love. Beatles. In 1959, Andrew and Carl Redman created the company Music Communications Group, which produced soundtracks and videos. And, unlike much of the music industry in the 1950s, these days, music is what they do for a living. What’s more, when they work together, they produce greatness. Carl worked on the Big Band era of the Beatles’ career; Andrew produced Back To The Moon. And when Redman died in 2013, Andrew began working with Radiohead and Justin Bieber. Can anyone claim to have made more notable albums?

| Liverpool’s back in fashion. Every time I’m in Liverpool, I always have a wee heart-to-heart with a travelagent/supermarket owner/young mum/traditional gent. It just shows you how loyal the city is.

| I made a record and published an EP of experimental pop/dance music called the Hillbilly Beat Orgy, called literally no bullshit … (title might be apt, says Andrew). ‘And so I re-recorded it under a theme of broken hearts as a sort of healing record. I re-recorded it for St. Jude’s charity, I donated the proceeds to him. He’s a national man about town because he offers comfort and care to people in need.

| I’m friends with both Will Young and Calum Scott, and we meet up and jam together. It’s a fun night.

| I did quite a few things with Ariana Grande, which is her godmother now. She and I really clicked well, we would stay up till 4am. I’m just a firm believer in early morning wake-up calls.

| Drake is one of my favourite singers.

| When I made my debut, I went to LA to make my first record, but I didn’t like it. I went back and made the record that you can hear on this EP.

| At the heart of it, I love music. Nothing is more important. I’m a lucky dude to have been introduced to so many great artists and songs. It’s been a really incredible year.

| My mum is here at the moment. It took me her a while to come to terms with my choices, because she was so macho; she used to tell me I had a privileged childhood and that I should be doing something else. She’s now ok with the fact that it’s me and her and my sister; she’s just now fine with it.

| When I was 30, I didn’t want to know anyone. That’s the biggest mistake you can make as a human being.

Andrew Watt’s White Girls is out now on Sub Pop Records. You can buy it here.
