The row between Sarah Jessica Parker and her Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall over Parker’s decision to do a follow-up movie has taken a new turn.

Friends of Chris Noth, who played Carrie Bradshaw’s husband in the HBO hit, have opened up about the “sad and uncomfortable” feud.

But others – notably Vanessa Williams – have called the dispute “childish”.

The saga began when Parker, 57, announced she would not be making a Sex and the City 3 in July.

Noth, who left the show in 2006, told The Hollywood Reporter: “I was so sad and uncomfortable. If you create an environment that’s kind of uncomfortable, then someone is going to feel like they want to go somewhere else.”

But on Thursday, Vanessa Williams – who played Carrie’s friend, Samantha Jones – told Entertainment Tonight that she found the fallout “childish”.

“They are in their 50s, as are I. I don’t know what this is about.

“The lady has to do what she has to do for her show… I hope all of this ends soon,” she said.

Kim Cattrall, who has not worked with Noth since 2009, tweeted at Parker in October, pleading for a reunion.

A spokesperson for the actress said: “As a matter of policy, Kim is not commenting on her ongoing battle with the SATC producers. She remains focused on her new show. Kim will continue to be guided by her fans who support her.”

That did not quell the disagreements between the actress and Parker, who is reported to have blamed Cattrall for not providing “evidence” that she wanted to be part of a third movie.

Tensions between Parker and Cattrall were raised last year when the actress apparently turned down a $1m (£748,000) pay rise for the third movie.

Parker, 57, and former husband Chris Noth, 67, are now married and live in Los Angeles, where the father-of-two has a production company called Mysterium Media.

Cattrall has been previously critical of Parker, who is the face of Chanel No 5 perfume and has been the face of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent for a similar role.

“I’ve never felt that her importance was anything other than problematic,” Cattrall told InStyle magazine in June.

Parker has refused to comment on Cattrall’s latest statement about not wanting to do a third film, telling the Hollywood Reporter in November: “I am not going to engage in the petty and mean-spirited attacks that have become part of the dialogue.”

But during an appearance on Today in January, Parker responded to Cattrall by saying: “Obviously there was a lot of hurt, a lot of hurt feelings and a lot of ambiguity in that [statement]. And I don’t think I can help allay it, but I will say that I think the quote is a little misunderstood.”
